Revisiting Constitutional Reform in Trinidad and Tobago Virtual Event

On Friday April 12, 2024 at 10:00 am, the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of the West Indies. St. Augustine, will host a Constitutional Reform forum themed “Revisiting Constitutional Reform in Trinidad and Tobago”.

The event will be held virtually via zoom at 10:00 am (AST/Eastern Caribbean) /9:00 am (EST/Jamaica).

The forum is a response to the recent call by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for contributions on Constitutional Reform and is strictly solutions oriented. It features proposed measures and legislation from a distinguished panel of experts. Panellists include:

  1. The Honourable Farley Chavez Augustine – Chief Secretary and Secretary of Finance, Trade and the Economy, Tobago House of Assembly.
  2. Professor Hamid Ghany – CMTT; Professor of Constitutional Affairs and Parliamentary Studies; Honorary Professor, SALISES, UWI, St. Augustine.
  3. Dr. Kusha Haraksingh, Former Head of Department; Former Senior Lecturer, Department of History; Former Dean, Faculty of Law, UWI, St. Augustine.
  4. Dr. Indira Rampersad – Head of Department; Lecturer, Political Science/International Relations, Department of Political Science; UWI, St. Augustine.
  5. Dr Timothy Affonso – Lecturer in Law; Deputy Dean, Faculty of Law, UWI, St. Augustine.
  6. Dr. Maukesh Basdeo – Lecturer, Political Science; Coordinator, Constitutional Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Unit, Department of Political Science, UWI, St. Augustine .

The forum will be chaired and moderated by Dr. Marlene Attzs, Lecturer, Department of Economics, UWI, St. Augustine.

Invitation to Community Outreach Meetings

The National Advisory Committee on Constitutional Reform (NACCR) is hosting a series of Community Outreach meetings in communities across Trinidad & Tobago to hear the thoughts of our citizens on constitutional reform.

Citizens in the Sangre Grande, Point Fortin and Port of Spain/Diego Martin areas are invited to join us on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th of April, 2024 (respectively) at 6:00 P.M., as the Committee will be in attendance at each session to engage with you, face-to-face, to get your thoughts and recommendations for how we can shape a Constitution that represents the people’s aspirations and how they want to be governed.

Citizens urged to submit recommendations for Constitutional Reform

The National Advisory Committee on Constitutional Reform (NACCR) invites individual and corporate citizens to submit their recommendations for Constitutional Reform.

Over the past few weeks, the eight-member Committee has focused on developing strategies to encourage citizens locally and throughout the diaspora to send their recommendations on reforming the Constitution.
